Who we are

The California Tomato Research Institute leads crop improvement, research and technology in California’s processing tomato industry.  The Institute’s purpose is to identify, fund and direct research to maintain and enhance the economic viability of California's processing tomato industry with emphasis on production, product quality and the environment. 

Director Position Open

With the retirement of the Institute’s Director, Chuck Rivara, the Board of Directors is seeking a motivated self-starter to lead the Institute.  This is a  rare chance to immediately step into a leadership role and establish yourself as a go-to person to solve industry challenges.  Primary responsibilities include pursuing, supporting and directing production research in the California Processing Tomato Industry that helps the processing tomato industry maintain its world number one ranking.  Nearly 40% of the world’s tomatoes are produced here in California.  The Director has the opportunity to work with every tomato grower in California and often interacts with industry folks from other tomato producing states and countries.  The Director works independently with various universities and related organizations to coordinate research, provide technical advice for growers and manage the business activities of the institute.  Our tomato growers lead  the world with the highest yield per acre and the very best quality and the California Tomato Research Institute and Its director play an integral role helping the industry maintain its considerable advantage.
